“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)
Children and youth crave attention, love, and opportunities to develop positive self-esteem. Children and youth need environments where they feel safe and cared for. Most of all, children and youth need to know God, to “fear” (have reverence, respect and awe of) God, and to love God.
The Urban Methodist Youth Camp provides opportunities for young people to grow spiritually as they connect with God through prayer, devotions, and conversations about God, and through nature, sports and fun activities. All that happens at the Urban Methodist Youth Camp points to God’s amazing love and our individual and corporate response to it. We can imitate the love of God on the basketball court, on the high ropes course, at mealtime, and at home, church, and school.
Our 2023 theme, “I Will Dance,” comes from Jeremiah 31:3b-4, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. 4 I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt. Again you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful“.
God’s love for us is everlasting and unfailing. God is ever faithful to us and is waiting to build us up again into God’s people. For this, we can be joyful.
